FROM ISSI

Everyone in golf started where you are.

“I couldn’t hit it either. The only difference between me and you is that I learned it the right way round. See you at orientation.”

Issi Bryon, GolfSpace Membership Manager, plays off two.

THE PROBLEM

Every beginner program teaches you to swing. None of them teach you to play.

Get-into-golf programs exist everywhere, and they teach the swing on a range. Then you stand on a first tee and discover that playing 18 holes is a completely different game to advancing a ball up a driving range. Nobody taught you the rules, the scoring, what a par 4 asks of you, or where to stand. It's like learning tennis in a car park: you can hit a thousand balls there and still have no idea how to play a match. Golf does that to every beginner, and then wonders why seven out of ten leave.

Screen to Green is the pathway that didn't exist. The screen is where you learn the game. The green is where you prove it.

7 in 10

beginners leave the game.

20

weeks on the screen.

6

weeks on the green at Woollahra.

HOW IT WORKS

We teach golf backwards. From the hole to the tee.

Start with a one metre putt. Finish with a driver. Every level adds the next club back from the green, and nothing you learn gets left behind.

18 is par.

Every level has six stages and one number to beat. 18 points earns a star and unlocks the next stage. The number never changes for six months; the courses get longer as you earn them. You shoot par in week one.

You play the course from Level 1.

At every level you play real TrackMan courses matched to the skills you've just learned, with your handicap switched on, scoring Stableford hole by hole. Level 1 is short par 3s at London Gardens and Tokyo Gardens. Level 6 is Moore Park, Bonnie Doon and Royal Sydney. That can't be taught on a range.

Fewer bad holes, not more great ones.

Golf is scored by avoiding the bad holes, not chasing the great ones. Stableford teaches you that from your first card: a bad hole is a zero, not a ten. A par 4 on the card is what Nelly Korda needs. With your shots, a 6 is your par. Most golfers never learn that. You will in Level 1.

THE SCREEN TO GREEN APP

You don't need motivation. You need a next step you can see.

Every go is scored. Every star unlocks the next stage. Every level stamps your passport. If you've played Candy Crush, you already understand it.

Stars

Score 18 and you've earned a star and unlocked the next stage. 24 for two, 30 for three.

Streaks and personal bests

Every attempt is logged. You beat yourself, not the woman next to you.

The Rule Book and Ask Caddie

MEASURED FROM FIRST SWING TO HANDICAP

You'll see exactly how far you've come.

The University of Technology Sydney is measuring every Cohort 1 golfer from her first swing to her handicap: where she starts, how often she plays, which parts of the program move her most. At orientation you'll answer a short set of baseline questions, and at graduation you get your own progress report.

Research data is de-identified. Full details and consent at orientation.

THE 26 WEEKS

Twenty weeks on the screen. Six on the green.

The outdoor block lands in April and May, the best golf weather Sydney has, after the indoor habit has formed over summer.

IS THIS YOU

Any woman who wants to become a golfer.

Never swung a club.

Had a go once or twice and want to do it properly this time.

Want to play with your partner, your friends or your colleagues without feeling like the beginner.
